Senior portrait looks have changed radically over the years. ![]() From there we will work together to collect inspiration images, plan clothing, hair and makeup and to co-create the photoshoot that will make your teen feel confident and amazing. In that consultation I will offer suggestions for location, style and the overall mood of the session. I want the senior to be the creative director of the shoot which is why I work closely with them from the very beginning to help them create the photo session of their dreams. I will consult with you and your teen beforehand to get a feel for your overall vision and to make sure that we create something that your teen will love. They are about allowing the senior to show-off their own unique personality and style and sometimes to re-invent themselves through images. Senior portrait sessions with Miette are all about expression. Why not let them be a part of the process so that they can create something they are really excited about? I believe the senior portrait experience should be an opportunity for your teen to have a voice, be in control of how they want to be perceived and to express their personality in a professional photograph for the very first time. ![]() That has typically involved them wearing clothes they didn’t want to wear, sitting still, forcing a smile and holding a pose that made them feel awkward or embarrassed. As a result, professional photography has likely not been the most amazing experience for them up to this point. Throughout their school years they have been subjected to the annual school picture day that has recorded and preserved their awkward passage through puberty in a very public way. Some dread the experience and are dragged, kicking and screaming by their parents, into it – and rightly so. Some really look forward to the experience and spend months or even years contemplating, planning and pinning looks to social media sites that they hope one day to emulate. ![]() Speaking of sports, you can get some pretty epic photos without them feeling like the typical senior sports photos.Senior portraits are a rite of passage for most high school seniors. Don’t see something in the list above? That’s ok! You might want to go to a theatre if you’re into musicals/plays or a sports field if you live and breathe for a certain sport. But you’ll typically want to pick something that fits your vibe and personality and go from there. There are plenty of options for locations that fit each of the “backgrounds” listed above. We have a lot of fun here, and we hope you will, too! Modern photography studio has a lot of options, and is typically very clean-looking and very classy.Things are a little more worn down and, well, grungy. Clearn urban would be a setting similar to main street Ashland, where there are nice buildings and facades, and the alley by Uniontown Brewing Company.Tamed nature is basically “manicured” nature settings, such as the well-maintained grounds at Ashland University, a golf course, etc.Think places like Freer field, Byers woods, a pasture, etc. Untamed nature is basically something out in the “wild” or rather unkempt.We think through background styles that would match your personality and typical wardrobe. What do I mean by backgrounds? Like - fake backgrounds in a studio? Heaven’s no, we keep things way cooler than that! ![]() However, unless you have a really specific reason to going to a particular location, we suggest thinking through “backgrounds” instead of locations. We use battery powered flashes that allow us to get great images no matter where we go. When you think through “where” you want your senior pictures taken (as in, what location), you obviously have a lot of options. Think Through “Backgrounds” - Not Locations
